Man Utd make "enquiry" for "unbelievable" Arsenal star who's open to joining - journalist

Manchester United have submitted an "informal enquiry" to sign Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly, with the Gunners star "prepared" to leave North London in search of more playing time.

Manchester United's left-back targets

United are set to pursue reinforcements on the left side of defence this summer, with Tyrell Malacia expected to leave the club and competition required for Luke Shaw ahead of a season with European football.

Fulham and USA star Antonee Robinson is among the targets, as is Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell and David Raum of RB Leipzig, with a wide array of options being considered with the club yet to decide on a permanent manager.

A new manager will of course want their own players and styles brought in, and Lewis-Skelly is now one of the options being considered, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist told The United Stand United made "an informal enquiry" for the England defender, who can also play in midfield, and he is "prepared to explore options" this summer having lost his place in the first-team at the Emirates Stadium.

That may come as a surprise to his teammates who have heaped praise on him, with Ben White labelling the teenager "unbelievable" and a physical "monster".

Lewis-Skelly fee and wages

If United are to lure the 19 year-old away from his boyhood club they may well have to make him one of their highest earners and shell out a hefty transfer fee.

“If someone wants to approach club-to-club talks, they’ll have to overpay," Jacobs explains.

"Suitors will need to get Lewis-Skelly to buy into the move first, in order to convince Arsenal to negotiate.”

Lewis-Skelly earnes just £45,000-a-week in North London currently, which would place him near the bottom of United's current wage bill - click for full list.

Rank Player Gross pay per week

1 Casemiro £350,000

2 Bruno Fernandes £300,000

3 Matthijs de Ligt £195,000

4 Harry Maguire £190,000

5 Matheus Cunha £180,000
