"Enjoy your quadruple" - Southampton mock Arsenal supporter after knocking Gunners out of the FA Cup

Southampton's X (formerly Twitter) account took a cheeky dig at an Arsenal fan after knocking the Gunners out of the FA Cup. The Saints defeated Mikel Arteta's side 2-1 at the St Mary's Stadium on Saturday, April 4.

Ross Stewart gave the Championship side a surprise lead in the first half after Ben White misjudged the flight of the ball and failed to get at the end of a cross. The Southampton star had enough time to chest the ball down and slot it past Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 35th minute.

Viktor Gyokeres continues his fine form, getting the Gunners level minutes after coming on. The Swede came off the bench at the hour mark and scored the equalizer in the 68th minute.

The Premier League leaders kept pushing for a winner, but it was Shea Charles who scored for Southampton in the 85th minute to seal a stunning win. One Arsenal fan was not happy with the result and called it a 'fluke win' for the Saints on X.

The Southampton account was quick to hit back and replied:

The loss saw Arsenal lose back-to-back matches, after losing the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City last month. However, Arteta does not want make excuses for the defeats and said:

"No, and I don't want to put any excuses about the players that are missing or the players that are here with issues. It's not the case - let's look at ourselves in the mirror, accept the situation, and go to Portugal with clarity and look forward to it." (via club website)

The Gunners still remain active in the Premier League title race and the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal not planning massive changes in the summer

Mikel Arteta does not think Arsenal need massive transfers in the summer after losing back-to-back matches. The Arsenal manager claimed that he still loves his players and said:

"I love my players. What they've done for nine months, the way they're putting their bodies through everything, some of them probably didn't even have to be here today. I'm going to defend them more than ever. If someone has to take responsibility, it's me - we have the most beautiful period of the season ahead of us, and now is the moment. In the season, you always have moments - normally two or three.

"This is the first moment that we have with a certain level of difficulty, we say difficulty when we're going into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the runner-up for the league. It's a difficult period - I believe that's it - there are many others that are even more difficult. So, stand up, make yourself accountable and deliver like we've been doing all season." Arsenal face Sporting CP next in the UEFA Champions League, before taking on AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.
