Report: Chelsea now tracking Bayern Munich's preferred replacement for Manuel Neuer

A plethora of goalkeepers have already been linked with Chelsea, given the Blues are expected to sign a new shot-stopper this summer, and the latest is Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel.

Robert Sanchez’s mistakes have played a large part in Liam Rosenior’s side only managing four clean sheets in 20 games. The fourth came against Port Vale on Saturday evening, during their 7-0 victory.

Rosenior is said to be a big fan of Filip Jorgensen, but the Dane flopped against PSG and is currently recovering from a second injury sustained since the new Chelsea manager replaced Enzo Maresca.

It is expected to be a priority for Chelsea this summer: signing a new goalkeeper. Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs, Roma’s Mile Svilar, and others have been touted with Chelsea.

Chelsea eye Bayern Munich’s long-term Neuer replacement

For years, Dortmund have been unable to resist the lure of Bayern Munich. Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski, and so many more have made the switch. Now, Bayern want to replace Manuel Neuer.

The Bayern legend is in his forties, and the German champions want a replacement. Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel is said to be at the top of the list for Vincent Kompany’s side, ahead of the summer window.

However, Bayern are no longer alone in their pursuit of 20-time Switzerland international Kobel. As per Foot Mercato, Chelsea and Newcastle are also ‘tracking’ Kobel, Dortmund’s in-form shot-stopper.

Dortmund have been lauded for their improved defence this season, and a large part of that is Kobel’s form, having kept an impressive 16 clean sheets in 41 appearances. He’s conceded only 51 goals.

The Chelsea-Dortmund connection is a consistent one

Chelsea and Dortmund have a solid working relationship. Last summer, it allowed the Blues to sign Jamie Gittens for north of £50m, while Aaron Anselmino joined the German side on loan from Chelsea.

Who is Chelsea’s best goalkeeper?

The situation regarding Anselmino did not impress Chelsea, with Dortmund attempting to convince the Argentine to remain permanently, which was never the agreement. Nevertheless, a secure relationship.

Carney Chukwuemeka, Ian Maatsen, Michy Batshuayi and even Pulisic have gone to Dortmund from Chelsea in the last 10 years. Now, that link could be strengthened again, this time with Kobel’s signing.
