Opinion:£29m Chelsea star's stats shouldn't be ignored despite Port Vale being dreadful

Chelsea’s critics will argue that it was only Port Vale, but Estevao Willian put in a terrific performance against the League One side.

The winger managed to get his name on the scoresheet, but his overall performance would have pleased Liam Rosenior.

Rosenior was also happy with Cole Palmer, even though the attacking midfielder failed to find the back of the net like Estevao.

Estevao Willian’s attacking numbers in Chelsea’s 7-0 thrashing of Port Vale

The contribution from Estevao that Chelsea fans will remember is obviously his goal. However, the 18-year-old did more than just score.

For example, Estevao, who cost Chelsea an initial £29m fee, also registered an assist. As well as that, the Brazilian created two big chances and registered four key passes, as per Sofascore.

Really, Estevao should have finished the FA Cup tie with more than two goal contributions. He had four shots in total to go with the several chances he created.

The Brazil international even hit the woodwork a couple of times. On another day, he may have had a hat-trick.

Estevao had been out with a hamstring injury, but he is fully fit again and showing Chelsea what they have been missing.

Despite still being a teenager, it has not taken Estevao long to settle in at Chelsea and become one of the team’s most feared attackers.

Estevao can score, assist, dribble and operate in more than one offensive position. He was always going to run riot in this sort of game against opposition from the Football League.

Following Saturday’s tie, Estevao has now achieved an impressive FA Cup feat. He is the youngest player since Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka to score and assist in a single match in the competition.

They are obviously going to provide a much sterner test, but hopefully Estevao can make a similar impact when Chelsea take on Manchester City in the Premier League next Sunday. After that, the Blues face City’s rivals Manchester United.
