This trade pitch would see the Jaguars send Brian Thomas Jr. to the 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have been active this offseason in the wake of their surprise run to the divisional round of the playoffs last year. Assuming the team can stay healthy, they should be among the top Super Bowl contenders in the NFL when they return to action for the 2026 campaign.
Despite enjoying a strong offensive season, the Niners have made several significant changes on that side of the ball, particularly at the wide receiver position. The team could still use help here, though, so let’s take a look at a trade pitch that would see San Francisco acquire former Pro Bowl wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
49ers’ Brian Thomas Jr. Trade Pitch
49ers receive: WR Brian Thomas Jr.
Jaguars receive: 2026 second-round pick (No. 58) and 2026 fifth-round pick (No. 172)
The turnover at the wide receiver position has been one of the biggest storylines of the offseason for the 49ers. Jauan Jennings is set to depart in free agency, and Brandon Aiyuk’s time with the team, while not officially over, appears to be coming to an end. With that in mind, the front office went out and signed both Mike Evans and Christian Kirk on the open market.
Add in Ricky Pearsall, and this has the makings of a pretty solid group. There are question marks at this position, though. Evans’ production has begun to decline, Pearsall has struggled with injuries early in his career, and Kirk hasn’t exactly been a consistent producer throughout his career. Add in tight George Kittle’s Achilles injury, and Brock Purdy may need more guys to throw the ball to on offense.
That’s where Thomas comes into the picture. After a standout rookie season (87 REC, 1,282 YDS, 10 TD), Thomas took a notable step back in 2025 (48 REC, 707 YDS, 2 TD). With a big contract looming for Thomas, his name has popped up in trade rumors, and while Jacksonville did use the No. 23 overall pick on him in the 2024 NFL Draft just a couple of years ago, this sort of trade package from the 49ers could be enough to convince its front office to move him.
Would the 49ers, Jaguars Be Interested in This Brian Thomas Jr. Trade?

Thomas’ drop in production in 2025 was confusing, but he’s still only 23 years old, and the 49ers’ offense would seemingly provide him with the perfect opportunity to get his career back on track. Yes, he struggled last season, but at his best, Thomas has proven he can be a No. 1 wide receiver. For this price, San Francisco would have to be interested in swinging a deal for the 2024 Pro Bowler.
The Jaguars, on the other hand, don’t seem to be outrageously interested in moving Thomas. Unless they get a trade offer they can’t refuse, they probably aren’t going to be moving on from him, and a late second-round pick being the headliner in this offer doesn’t move the needle. There just isn’t much of an incentive for Jacksonville to trade Thomas right now, which is why this deal likely won’t end up being made.
