Jaguars Sign Travon Walker to Long-Term Contract Extension

Throughout the 2026 offseason, the Jaguars have made it clear they are prioritizing building the team in the draft while retaining current players on flexible contract extensions. Cornerback Montaric Brown and linebacker Dennis Gardeck were signed in the early stages of free agency. Nearly one month later, pass rusher Travon Walker was extended. He reached an agreement on a 4-year, $110 million contract, with $77 million in total guarantees and $50 million guaranteed at signing.

In 2022, Walker was selected first overall and has been consistently productive. Through four seasons, he has totaled 27.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, 57 quarterback hits, and 99 pressures. Walker suffered a wrist injury in Week Four, as well as a knee injury in Week 11.

While he only missed three games due to injury, it was clear the effect it had on his ability to rush the passer. He totaled just 3.5 sacks and 19 pressures. Despite this, he remained an excellent run defender and was still a positive player.

General manager James Gladstone was unfazed by Walker’s dip in production and believes the best is yet to come. “Travon fits what we want to be and what we’re about as an organization. His love for the game and his teammates is infectious and his determination to play through injury last season cemented our belief in him. His best football is still ahead of him, and we’re excited that it will happen with the Jaguars.”

Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile had high praise for Walker’s skills and what he brings to the defense. “His versatility is really what enables us to do a lot of the things we do. A guy like Travon lets us play so many different fronts over the course of a game with the same personnel grouping and it makes it hard on the offense to ever gauge on what you’re going to be in.”

Value of the Contract

With Walker in the final year of his contract, the Jaguars moved quickly. They didn’t allow their cornerstone player to hit free agency or increase his market value. With an average annual value of $27.5 million, Walker is now the 12th-highest paid edge rusher in the NFL.

Despite the scrutiny of being picked first overall, playing through multiple coaching changes and new management, Walker has consistently produced at a high level and now lands a long-term extension with the team. Now that his future is secured, the Jaguars are betting that his best football is still ahead and that he can continue to develop.
