Man Utd now in contact to sign "lightning fast" Champions League star with 30 G/A this season

Manchester United have been in contact about a deal for a Real Madrid star, with talks about a contract extension at the Santiago Bernabeu stalling.

Man Utd gearing up for summer rebuild

With Michael Carrick overseeing a major turnaround in fortunes, Man United are firmly on course to qualify for the Champions League, and if they manage to get over the line, they should be able to attract some top players at the end of the campaign.

Sky Sports reporter Dan Khan has revealed there could be a "huge summer" in store for United, who are looking to cash-in on Marcus Rashford and a number of other players to fund their transfer business.

Khan names midfield as a position in which the Red Devils are looking to strengthen, with Casemiro set to depart at the end of his contract, while Manuel Ugarte's future at Old Trafford is also up in the air, amid interest from Aston Villa.

Bringing in a new midfielder is clearly high on the list of priorities for INEOS, but they have also been presented with a potential opportunity to sign a new forward.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, intermediaries have now been in contact to offer Man United the chance to sign Vinicius Jr this summer, with the Brazilian forward's future at the Santiago Bernabeu up in the air.

Vinicius is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, with talks about a contract extension stalling, given that the Spanish side are unwilling to increase their offer any further.

Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior reacts

If the 25-year-old fails to agree new terms, the La Liga heavyweights will lose him on a free transfer in the summer of 2027, and his camp are now assessing their options, having contacted a whole host of the Premier League's top clubs.

Losing the Brazil international would undoubtedly be a blow for Real Madrid, given that he has remained an absolutely crucial player this season, amassing 30 goal contributions in 44 appearances across all competitions, and he has looked particularly impressive in the Champions League.

La Liga 29 17

Champions League 12 12

Supercopa 2 1

Copa del Rey 1 0

Having also been lauded as "lightning fast" and an "unbelievable individual" by Liverpool manager Arne Slot, signing Vinicius Jr would certainly be a statement of intent for Man United.

However, given that he currently pockets £350k-a-week at the Santiago Bernabeu, the forward's wage demands would be very high, and United strengthened their attack significantly last summer, bringing in Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who have all become important players.
