The latest transfer talk from Sunderland as the Black Cats prepare for the summer transfer window.
Sunderland are reportedly considering a summer transfer window move for a Spanish midfielder that was said to be a transfer target for Premier League rivals Chelsea in recent seasons.
The Black Cats are currently formulating their plans for the summer transfer window after officially securing their Premier League status with recent wins against Leeds United and local rivals Newcastle United. Several players have already been linked with moves to the Stadium of Light including Bologna and Colombia defender Jhon Lucimi, Brøndby’s Clement Bischoff and Clermont Foot midfielder Habib Keita.
However, a new name can be added to the ever-growing list of reported Black Cats transfer targets after they were linked with a move for Almeria attacking midfielder Sergio Arribas. The Real Madrid academy product joined the Segunda Division side in a reported £5m move during the summer of 2023 and has scored 38 goals and provided 16 assists in 116 appearances during that time. However, it is during the current season where Arribas has truly come to the fore with 27 goal involvements in just 33 appearances in Spanish football’s second tier.
Arribas was linked with a move to Chelsea prior to his move to Almeria - and Sport Witness have now suggested Sunderland could make a new attempt to lure him to the Premier League during the summer transfer window after he caught the attention of Black Cats sporting director Florent Ghisolfi with his impressive performances throughout the season. However, Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport have now claimed Roma are also keen on the attacking midfielder and have identified Arribas and Red Bull Salzburg’s Kerim Alajbegović as two main targets as they prepare for life without Paulo Dybala.
The 40-times capped Argentina international is out of contract at the end of the season and his four-year stay at the Stadio Olimpico appears to be coming to an end. Dybala has scored 45 goals in 135 appearances for Roma and was part of the side that reached the 2023 Europa League final before a defeat against Sevilla ended any thoughts of claiming silverware.
