Vikings' J.J. McCarthy gets QB1 confidence boost from former teammate

Ever since the Minnesota Vikings signed Kyler Murray in free agency, the consensus has been that J.J. McCarthy's time with the franchise as the starter is over.

Murray comes in with more to offer, at least right now, and the Vikings are going to give him every chance to win the job as the roster is built to win now.

So, the writing is on the wall for McCarthy if he can't beat out Murray for the starting job.

However, not everyone is so sure that McCarthy will lose his seat as the starter. His former teammate at Michigan, Blake Corum, now with the Los Angeles Rams, has full faith in J.J.

"I know he's not someone who's going to let naysayers or outsiders determine the type of player he's going to be," Corum said on Good Morning Football via NFL.com. "He still has the pencil in his own hand. He's still writing his story. I think this is going to be a great year for J.J., and I'm super excited to see him prove everyone wrong."

Will McCarthy beat out Murray?

Well, the Vikings are in a win-win position.

If McCarthy beats out Murray, it will prove they made the right draft selection, and J.J could be their starter for the next decade.

Conversely, if Murray beats out McCarthy, Minnesota will have a Pro Bowl quarterback ready to start the 2026 season, making the Vikings a dangerous prospect.

But Corum has faith that McCarthy can outduel Murray.

Time will tell if he can.
