Newcastle United’s Premier League trip to Arsenal was expected to be rearranged.

As the Premier League leaders, the Gunners were expected to beat the side currently sitting seventh in the Championship and advance into the last four of the FA Cup for the first time since winning it in 2020.

With the semi-final ties taking place at Wembley on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 - the same weekend the Magpies are scheduled to visit the Emirates Stadium, a rearranged midweek trip seemed like a formality.

Arsenal v Newcastle United to go ahead as planned

However, a 2-1 win for the Saints will see the match go ahead as planned. Eddie Howe’s side face Arsenal live on Sky Sports at 5:30pm on the Saturday evening.

The Premier League stated that the fixture would be rescheduled to take place between Tuesday, April 21 and Thursday, April 23. But as Arsenal are already facing Manchester City on Sunday, April 19, any rearrangement would have likely been on April 22 or April 23.

Newcastle have not won a Premier League match at the Emirates since 2010 but did beat Arsenal away in the Carabao Cup semi-final last season with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon scoring in a 2-0 win en route to winning the competition.

This season’s reverse fixture between the sides at St James’ Park earlier this season saw Newcastle take the lead through Nick Woltemade before late goals from Mikel Merino and Gabriel saw Arsenal snatch three points.
