Michael Carrick is doing his best to convince Ineos of his long-term capability, but another manager at Man Utd in the same boat as him could hint at the decision being made.
Since joining Man Utd in an interim capacity, Michael Carrick has revived the club on and off the pitch.
The calls to give him the job permanently have grown louder, and justifiably so, especially because the pool of his potential rivals keeps shrinking.
However, Ineos have pleaded patience, but a big hint about Carrick’s future will eventually be seen in the decision Ineos make with another interim manager at Carrington.

Adam Lawrence’s Man Utd future impacts Michael Carrick
Amidst all the coaching changes at the senior team level, another “homecoming” at the academy level has gone under the radar this season.
Adam Lawrence returned from Newcastle after just four months to manage Man Utd’s U21s, which was a direct result of Carrick’s appointment.
Lawrence took over from Travis Binnion, who stepped up to assist Carrick with the first team, and has garnered rave reviews since.

Lawrence had been at United before joining Newcastle, and his work with the academy was highly rated.
United brought him back in an interim capacity until the end of the season, the same as Carrick, which is why what happens next with him will be a huge hint about Carrick’s future.
If Lawrence’s interim stay as Man Utd U21s manager becomes permanent, the chances of the same happening with Carrick are high.
That is because Carrick will keep Binnion on his staff, leaving the U21 manager job free for Lawrence, a job he has done well in.

Much like Carrick, Lawrence has remained respectful and diplomatic when asked about the chances of his tenure becoming permanent again.

The Manchester Evening News spoke to Lawrence, who preached patience and made it clear that all conversations will be had at the end of the season.
He said: “We’re a couple of months into [my interim tenure], and then we still have a few more months left between now and the end of the season. I knew coming in that it was until the end of the season, and then to see what happens. And I’ve not put too much time and energy into that, to be honest.
“I just think it’s too early anyway. I wouldn’t expect that to be in terms of like, I think at the moment, everyone is just really concentrated on between the first team and the academy programme.”
Ultimately, if Lawrence stays at Old Trafford beyond the end of this season, it’s basically a guarantee that Carrick will follow course, and vice versa.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.
