Newcastle United have had a €25m (£22m) offer turned down by Palmeiras for teenager Eduardo Conceicao, according to reports in the Brazilian media.
RTI Esporte claim that the Magpies have fallen short of the 16-year-old’s asking price, which is said to be €40m (£35m).
Eddie Howe’s side are believed to be the first team to submit an official proposal for Conceicao, but there is interest from other clubs.

Liverpool have been in contact with the player’s entourage, while City Football Group have been keeping tabs on the forward‘s progress over the last couple of years.
What do Newcastle fans need to know about the player?
The youngster is a winger who can be deployed on both flanks. However, he does prefer to play on the left side so he can cut in on to his stronger foot.
While Conceicao has not played any senior football yet, he did turn heads when playing in Sao Paulo’s prestigious youth tournament, the Copinha, back in January. In one group match for Palmeiras’ Under 20s, he scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in a 9-0 victory. He also found the back of the net in the first game of this year’s Under 20 Copa Libertadores, scoring the 5th goal during a 5-0 win over Universidad Catolica last month.
Conceicao is not pressing to leave Palmeiras
The Brazilian is very much at the beginning of his professional career, and RTI Esporte claim that Palmeiras have been reassured by his representatives that he is in no rush to leave the Brazilian club for European football.
By the same measure, Palmeiras are not keen on selling Conceicao either, and the €40m (£35m) valuation is only said to be a jumping-off point for negotiations to begin.
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson would be wise to get the approval of the player first before submitting an improved bid.
