Chelsea fans name their next vice-captain with Enzo Fernandez's future uncertain

Enzo Fernandez is currently the vice-captain of Chelsea, but he may not be for too much longer.

The midfielder could leave Stamford Bridge this summer as he continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Fernandez would love to live in Madrid one day, the 25-year-old recently revealed in an interview.

Chelsea fans want Levi Colwill to become vice-captain

With Fernandez possibly leaving west London in the upcoming transfer window, Chelsea supporters have been discussing who could succeed him as vice-captain.

On TalkingPoints, The Chelsea Chronicle posed the question, and Levi Colwill was the most popular answer.

One Chelsea fan said: “R. James & Levi Colwill. Cole Palmer can be 3rd.” Another supporter wrote: “Reece Skipper and Levi or Trev as vice.”

Another TalkingPoints user gave his order of stand-ins when James is not available. They posted: “1. R James 2. L Colwill 3. C Palmer 4. M Caicedo.”

For now, it looks like Fernandez will remain the deputy, with Liam Rosenior having no plans to strip him of the vice-captaincy.

However, Fernandez has still been punished following his recent interviews after being left out of Chelsea’s 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup. He is also set to miss this Sunday’s clash against Manchester City.

Levi Colwill has captained Chelsea before

Colwill would not be a bad choice for vice-captain. The central defender is Chelsea through and through after being part of the club’s youth system, while he has already captained the team on a couple of occasions.

In his first season with the Chelsea senior squad, Colwill captained the Blues twice. Despite being so young, Mauricio Pochettino trusted him with the captain’s armband.

Pochettino’s successor Enzo Maresca also tipped Colwill to become Chelsea skipper one day, so the 23-year-old looks ready to become James’ deputy if necessary when he returns from injury.

Cole Palmer captained Chelsea over the weekend, so the attacking midfielder is another option, though he is not as vocal as someone such as Colwill.
