Chelsea Target Morgan Rogers Open to Leaving Aston Villa This Summer: Reports

Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal have all been interested in 23-year-old Morgan Rogers, who is reportedly open to leaving Aston Villa this summer. Manchester United are also keeping an eye on him before the summer transfer window, as the attacking midfielder is said to want to join a team that are always trying to win big trophies.

Rogers and Villa’s management have agreed that this summer is the best time for them to part ways in order to get the most money for him. The England international has been nothing short of amazing since he moved from Middlesbrough for a low price of £8 million in February 2024. Rogers has scored eight goals and set up five more in the Premier League this season. He won the PFA Young Player of the Year award for his breakout season in 2024–25, when he scored 12 goals and set up 12 more in all competitions.

Chris Waddle, a former England star, has told the 23-year-old to stay at Villa Park even though he wants to move on. Waddle says he can achieve everything he wants under Unai Emery.

Even though Rogers signed a new six-year deal last November, a number of top clubs think a deal can be reached if Villa’s asking price is met. The club are once again having trouble with money because of the new Squad Cost Ratio rules, and selling Rogers would be the easiest way to fix that.

If Rogers were to leave, the fee could be more than the £100 million Manchester City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021. Joe Shields, Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment and talent, has long been a fan of his and is said to be leading the Blues’ efforts to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Chris Waddle’s Warning May Not Be Enough to Keep Rogers at Villa Park

Waddle’s advice is important, but the facts about Rogers’ situation make it more likely that he will leave this summer. This season, every one of his eight Premier League goals has either given Villa the lead or tied the game. No other player in the league can match this record currently.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Rogers has become an important player for England and is expected to play in the World Cup in North America this summer. If he plays really well in the tournament, his asking price would go up even more, and the Premier League’s top clubs would have to fight even harder to get him to sign before the summer window closes.
