Steelers Stock Watch 2026 – OL Spencer Anderson

Player: OL Spencer Anderson

Stock Value: Up

Reasoning: While the Steelers added Brock Hoffman, Spencer Anderson should be in pole position to replace Isaac Seumalo at left guard. The draft could, perhaps will, bring another worthy challenger. But unless or until that happens, the fourth-year veteran is looking at a golden opportunity. Entering a career year, he could stake his claim to a starting job in the NFL.

Far from a camp body, Spencer Anderson has gone from seventh-round afterthought to potential starter over his three-year career. Entering the final season of his rookie contract, he figures to compete for the left guard position. Following Isaac Seumalo’s departure in free agency, he is the main in-house challenger, Brock Hoffman added in free agency, too.

Now, Anderosn had an opportunity to claim pole position for a starting job before. In 2024, when Seumalo missed the beginning of the year, he did start ahead of then-rookie Mason McCormick. But McCormick pulled ahead, and when the right guard job opened up, he took over instead.

He has started several games since then, however, at both left and right guard, and has held his own. Anderson also became very valuable as an extra blocker—perhaps to his own expense. But now there is an opening for a starting job, and he obviously wants it.

A seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Spencer Anderson did well to even make the roster as a rookie. He barely played at all—two snaps on offense—but he grew and learned much that season. Over the past two years, he has logged nearly 700 offensive snaps.

All of that has prepared him for the opportunity that lies ahead, but it’s one he must earn. With Seumalo gone, Anderson is the known commodity in the locker room. But Brock Hoffman is the known commodity to new HC Mike McCarthy, too. Not that he was ever a full-time starter. And the draft very likely will bring a challenger in some form or fashion. But what that fashion is will determine the level of threat. If the Steelers draft a guard in the first round, then Anderson’s hopes of starting diminish rapidly.

With the 2025 season behind us and the new league year underway, we still have stock to take. Already promisinga year of change, they are shaking things up. That is unavoidable, of course, when you gut the coaching staff. Mike Tomlin’s resignation will fundamentally change this football team, including the playoffs on the roster.

After a long season, we have finally seen that this Steelers team is playoff-bound. But they also showed that their progress was actually minimal, since they made it no further. Two years in a row, with two different quarterbacks, they went 10-7 and lost in the Wild Card Round. The only differences are they ended the season on a higher note and won the division. But it didn’t help.
