Argentine media name the three clubs plotting move for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez

Enzo Fernandez is halfway through a two-game ban imposed by Liam Rosenior after comments made during the break, but who could actually sign the Chelsea star? Well, three teams are plotting a move.

That is according to reports in his home country, Argentina, where Fernandez made the comments about wanting to live in Madrid. Fernandez has been handed a two-game ban by Chelsea for “crossing a line”.

The club’s vice captain said he would like to live in Madrid, fully aware that reports have emerged over his desire to join a side boasting Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and other footballing greats.

Plenty of pundits have had their say on the situation and whether Liam Rosenior was right to impose a two-game ban. Gary Lineker and Micah Richards didn’t agree on the matter. But who wants to sign him?

It comes down to a finite number of clubs that can actually afford the World Cup winner. Chelsea are unlikely to sell Fernandez unless they receive a similar fee to the one they paid Benfica for him in 2023.

Reports say Chelsea want at least £100m for Fernandez. They are well within their rights to do so, given that he has a contract at Chelsea until 2032. Chelsea paid Benfica a then-record £107m for Fernandez.

However, La Nacion say three clubs are eyeing Fernandez. Obviously, Madrid are one of the three named but the report also claims that PSG would finance a move, as would Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid’s interest poses an interesting Enzo alternative

PSG have been loosely linked with Fernandez for some time, and of course, Fernandez would choose Real Madrid if he had the choice. But if he wants to live in Madrid, as he hints, then Atleti could be an option.

While the funds might not be as free to access as they might be at Madrid or PSG, Atleti have a history of spending big. They bought former Chelsea star Joao Felix for a nine-figure fee from Benfica in 2019-20.

With Julian Alvarez’s possible departure this summer, Simeone will have cash to spend, and that could well give Atleti the tools they need to finance a deal for Fernandez, Simeone’s fellow countryman.
