THE GOOD

– Sawed-off frame, but muscular and well-built

– Functionally strong and no-nonsense pass rusher

– Technically refined with plus hand use and rush plan

– Beats blocks with swipes, rips, and uses spin as a go-to or counter

– Works hard not to get shoved up arc and can counter back (often with his spin)

– Sets edge against the run and plays hard, knocking back tight ends at the point of attack with heavy hands

– Chases the ball with a revving motor

– Gets hands up to try and bat down passes

– Takes on pullers well and spills runs wide

– Experience playing hand up/down with some background dropping into zone coverage

– Excellent football/athletic bloodlines

The Bad

– Poor length, especially given his height

– Lacks twitch and linear athlete

– Serviceable get-off but tight-hipped, struggles to corner and finish upfield

– Lack of length robs him of making some plays, and falling off would-be tackles

– Spin move is effective against lesser tackles but not terribly quick and could have diminished returns against NFL talent; arguably overuses the move

– Ceiling appears limited

– Checkered medical history with multiple knee surgeries

Stats

– Career: 93 tackles (18 TFL), 10.5 sacks, 4 PDs, and 3 FFs across 28 games (23 starts)

– 2025: 44 tackles (7.5 TFL), 4.5 sacks, 2 PDs across 11 games (11 starts)

– Career: 1,372 defensive snaps (primarily played left side in 2023/2025, right side in 2024)

– 516 defensive snaps in 2025 (469 as left EDGE, zero as right EDGE)

– PFF’s No. 43 EDGE rusher in 2025 among 202 qualifiers (No. 45 run defense, No. 67 pass rush, No. 75 tackler)

– Credited for 34 pressures, six missed tackles (12.8 percent) in 2025, per PFF

– 115 tackles, 20.5 sacks as HS senior

Injury History

– March 2022: tore ACL and missed entire season (unclear which knee)

– September 2023: tore ACL in left knee while sacking quarterback against Oregon State, missing rest of season; returned for start of 2024

– 2026: hamstring injury attempting second 40-yard run at his Pro Day, did not work out afterwards

Bio

– Age unverified, but an older prospect

– Four-star recruit from Spanish Fork, Utah

– Spent 2022 season at BYU (did not play) before transferring to Utah for 2023-2025 seasons

– Chose BYU over Arizona, Michigan, Oklahoma, and several (then) Pac-12 schools; said he chose BYU because his best friend committed there

– Had a good relationship with former Steelers DL Shaun Nua, who recruited Fano out of HS while working for Arizona State and Michigan

– Brother, Spencer, is OT for Utah and likely 1st round pick of 2026 NFL Draft

– Four uncles played in the NFL while sister, Shalyn, played basketball at Utah Valley and Grand Canyon

– Played basketball in high school in addition to football

– 2026 Senior Bowl participant

– Served LDS mission in San Antonio before joining BYU in 2022

– Eagle Scout

Tape Breakdown

Logan Fano overcame a pair of ACL tears to put together two productive final collegiate seasons, having his best campaign in 2025. With a muscular frame and short arms, Fano’s game is predicated on technique and power. He uses swipes, rips, and spins (his favorite move) well.

Fano has the mass and mentality to take on pullers in the run game, spilling runs and making tackles.

Negatively, those knee injuries have neutralized any twitch Fano may have had. He struggles to turn the corner and finish, showing tightness in his lower body.

His spin move is more effective, but a lack of high-end athleticism makes me wonder if it’ll be as potent against NFL competition. The medicals are an obvious red flag, too. He had a pair of torn ACLs, and a hamstring injury nagged him throughout the pre-draft process, limiting his testing window. Couple that with the fact he is an older prospect, and there are baseline issues – medicals, athleticism, and age – to drive down his value.

Conclusion

Overall, Logan Fano is a technical rusher with a good plan, strength, and power. But his lack of bend, age, and injury history are all concerning. His game is similar to the Steelers’ 2025 fourth-round draft pick, Jack Sawyer, though Fano’s resume is less impressive. Fano also reminds me of former Ute Paul Kruger. He was a little bit longer than Fano, but a run defender first and pass rusher second.
