Steelers star named trade candidate could draw interest from Giants, Raiders, Bills

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally addressed their years-long need at wide receiver this offseason in a move fans had been yearning for.

That move was the trade for former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who will now serve as the No. 2 target opposite top wideout DK Metcalf.

However, one analyst doesn't think that pairing will ever see the field together, as he believes Metcalf could get dealt before the season starts.

DK Metcalf a Steelers trade candidate?

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton listed eight players he believes are at least in the conversation to be traded and included Metcalf among them.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing Moton believing a trade is going to happen, he puts Metcalf at a seven.

Here's why:

"Meanwhile, Metcalf doesn't have any guaranteed money left on his deal. As a two-time Pro Bowler, he's unlikely to play on a contract without financial security. That said, the 28-year-old is coming off his least productive pro campaign," he said.

"The Steelers have a strong track record of drafting receivers, and they have three third-round picks this year," Moton added. "Don't be surprised if Pittsburgh trades Metcalf and drafts a replacement on Day 2."

Why Giants could have interest

Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants entered the offseason with uncertainty at wide receiver thanks to the free-agent status of Wan'Dale Robinson.

Robinson has since left for the Tennessee Titans in free agency and the Giants do not have an adequate No. 2 target behind Malik Nabers, who is also coming back from a torn ACL and may not be himself the first year back.

That is not an ideal situation for a young quarterback like Jaxson Dart, who needs all the help he can get as he looks to cement himself as the franchise signal-caller.

Why Raiders could have interest

The Las Vegas Raiders are in a similar boat as the Giants in the sense that they will have a young quarterback (Fernando Mendoza) and don't have enough weapons.

In fact, the Raiders are in even worse shape at wide receiver because their options include unproven players like Jalen Nailor and 2025 draft picks Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton, and veteran No. 3 receiver Tre Tucker.

There's no question the Raiders need more for Mendoza, and to take some pressure off superstar tight end Brock Bowers, also.

Why Bills could have interest

The Buffalo Bills pulled off a trade for DJ Moore and he forms a solid one-two punch with Khalil Shakir.

But the Bills are lacking another outside receiver because they simply cannot depend on Keon Coleman or Joshua Palmer.

With Super Bowl aspirations, Buffalo should be going all-in on putting as many weapons as possible around Josh Allen, as the team goes as he goes.

Would the Steelers really trade DK Metcalf?

We find it extremely hard to believe the Steelers will trade Metcalf.

Yes, he was disappointing last season, but trading him would put the Steelers right back in the same boat they have been in the past two years and it also wouldn't make presumed starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers happy, either.

Sure, the Steelers could draft one or two wide receivers to replace him, but as we saw with Roman Wilson, nothing is guaranteed.

At this point, we would be shocked if Metcalf is playing elsewhere in 2026, although we wouldn't say the same about 2027.
