Eagles' $4 million quarterback named under-the-radar trade candidate

There’s no question that A.J. Brown appears to be the Philadelphia Eagles’ top trade candidate this offseason.

Although Brown is coming off a down season with the Eagles (by his standards), his trade value is still exceptionally high.

If a franchise (likely the New England Patriots) provides Philadelphia with the draft capital it’s seeking, a deal could occur in the next few months. However, Brown isn’t the only Eagle who could soon get traded.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay believes that the Eagles’ 25-year-old quarterback should be considered an under-the-radar trade candidate.

“The Philadelphia Eagles have made it clear they value Tanner McKee and want to keep him around, but the organization won't be able to hang onto the promising backup quarterback forever,” Kay wrote last Tuesday.

“With McKee entering the final year of his rookie deal, Philadelphia's brass is running out of options. The Eagles either need to find a way to offer an extension to a player who has started just two games in three seasons or, and this is the far more likely scenario, execute a trade with one of the many QB-hungry teams who have expressed interest in the 2023 sixth-rounder.

“An extension would be tough to negotiate, given McKee likely wants an opportunity to start. That isn't going to happen with Jalen Hurts locked in as Philly's QB1, and it could be prohibitively expensive to make it financially worthwhile for McKee to stick around in a backup role.”

Kay’s assessment of McKee’s future with the Eagles is spot on. The Stanford product is young and still has plenty of football left in his career. That said, with Hurts being the Eagles’ franchise quarterback for years to come, McKee likely won’t see the field much moving forward.

While the sample size is small, McKee has played respectable football to begin his career, which could entice an organization to take a chance on him via an offseason trade.

The 6-foot-6 quarterback has thrown for 597 receiving yards, tossed five touchdowns, and recorded only one interception in six games with Philadelphia (he entered the league in 2023).

Don’t be surprised if the Eagles decide to cut McKee loose before the start of the 2026-27 season.
