Jets trade idea leaps AFC East team, Rams for top WR to pair with Garrett Wilson

Coming into the 2026 NFL Draft, the New York Jets have some of the most valuable selections. But, with their second first-round pick at No. 16 overall, there is some risk.

With a few teams picking ahead of them needing wide receiver help, the Jets might be out of luck when it comes to adding a true number two receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson.

That's why ESPN's Bill Barnwell proposed a trade idea that would have the Jets use their 44th overall pick in an aggressive trade-up with the Cincinnati Bengals to leap the Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins to land a top WR.

Jets trade idea sends No. 16 and 44 for Bengals' 10th pick for WR help

"Moving up for a wide receiver such as Lemon or Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson - or even top tight end prospect Kenyon Sadiq out of Oregon - could make sense for Mougey, who has plenty of capital," Barnwell writes.

This proposal from Barnwell would have the Jets send picks 16 and 44 to the Bengals for the 10th pick and pick 110 in the fourth round.

While it's a lot to move up just four spots, the Jets would be jumping both the Rams and the Dolphins, who are seeking wide receiver help for differing reasons.

Miami cut ties with Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, while the Rams are going all-in and have some uncertainty about Davante Adams and Puka Nacua beyond 2026.

With Carnell Tate a very likely top-10 pick, and with both the Dolphins and Rams needing WR help, the Jets might miss out on all three of the top wide receivers.

Omar Cooper could be a good option for the Jets as well, but there's no guarantee he'd make it if there's such a wide receiver run ahead of their 16th overall draft selection, which is entirely possible.

Barnwell noted how the Dolphins and Rams need wide receiver help as a big reason why the Jets could swing this aggressive trade-up with the Bengals.

Makai Lemon out of USC, Jordyn Tyson out of Arizona State, and Omar Cooper Jr. out of Indiana could all be viable options for the Jets in Round 1. But if they don't trade up, they could miss out on all three, along with Ohio State's Carnell Tate.
