Mike Vrabel took the New England Patriots from being one of the worst teams in the NFL during the 2024 season to making the Super Bowl last season. While they fell victim to the Seattle Seahawks in the big game, the Patriots are back on the map as a legitimate contender.

One of the team’s key contributors on the offensive side of the football last season was veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs. He was a go-to target for rising superstar quarterback Drake Maye, but the team decided to release him earlier this offseason due to their financial situation.

Diggs remains a free agent at this point in the offseason. There is a chance he could return to the Patriots, although it seems more likely that he will sign elsewhere.

Where could Diggs end up signing? A rival AFC contender has been brought up as a potential threat to bring him in and eliminate New England’s chances of a reunion.

Patriots Could See Stefon Diggs Walk to Rival AFC Contender

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport believes that the Kansas City Chiefs make the most sense as a potential Diggs suitor this offseason.

“Bringing in Stefon Diggs wouldn’t be a weird move, though. The Chiefs need to add a wide receiver to a room that currently sports Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and not much else. Kansas City has also made something of a habit of bringing in veteran wide receivers who were cast off by other teams,” Davenport wrote.

“Right now, Kansas City’s pass-catchers are more a weakness than a strength. The addition of Diggs could change that.”

Diggs would almost certainly have interest in playing for the Chiefs. Being able to become a top target for Patrick Mahomes would give him a chance to be a huge piece of a potential Super Bowl caliber team once again.

Losing Diggs Would Be a Disappointing Outcome for New England

Unfortunately, the reality of the business side of the NFL is that players come and go. Diggs quickly became a liked player in New England. Seeing him leave for Kansas City would be a difficult pill to swallow.

Throughout his lone season with the Patriots, Diggs played in all 17 games. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

In the playoffs, Diggs played in four games and caught 14 passes for 110 yards and a score.

After last season, it is clear that Diggs still has some good football left in the tank. While the Patriots cannot be counted out as a suitor for him this offseason, a team like the Chiefs could very well come swooping in soon to steal him away.
