“$63M vs $245K” Titans Lead NFL in Cap Space While Bears Scrape By (Report)

The NFL is gearing up for another season, with new changes already being made. With the 2025 season over and the offseason ongoing, the league is preparing for the start of the 2026 NFL season. It is making sure that this year’s edition is far better and efficient than before.

Some big decisions are already being taken ahead of the new season. To make sure the teams can compete properly, the league has decided to make a huge update.

NFL increases salary cap space to $300 million

The NFL officially set the 2026 salary cap at $301.2 million per team on February 27, 2026. It is the first time in the league’s history that the salary cap has been set at more than $300 million. It was raised from $279.2 million for the 2025 season, an increase of $22 million. It comes four years after the cap exceeded the $200 million milestone for the 2022 season.

If player benefits are also counted, then the total player compensation per franchise will reach approximately $378.8 million.Due to increased revenues from broadcasting deals, sponsorships, and digital streaming, the salary cap was raised. It represents the rapid growth of the NFL, which comes with more revenue and financial benefits.

It also provides teams with more flexibility, and they can now better handle room for signings, extensions, and contract negotiations. Already, the 32 teams’ salary cap has been consumed with many free agency deals concluded and adjustments to the roster made.

The available cap space figures for each team are calculated after accounting for dead money, guarantees, and roster bonuses. Teams that have available cap space can easily pursue more players and be able to better absorb contract restructures. Meanwhile, those with near zero or negative cap space will now have to plan how to create new space or operate with what remains.

Titans lead NFL cap space rankings while Bears near zero

A ranking has been made of all 32 teams’ remaining cap space. According to Ari Meirov, the Tennessee Titans currently lead the league with $63 million in available cap space. The Washington Commanders, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Arizona Cardinals, and the New York Jets have over $40 million in cap space left. The New England Patriots, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Seattle Seahawks, and the San Francisco 49ers have more than $30 million left.

In the lowest position, the Chicago Bears have just $245,000 in cap space left. This leaves them with a difficult situation as they have to carefully manage their roster. The Miami Dolphins and the Carolina Panthers have over $2 million, while the Kansas City Chiefs, the New York Giants, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have less than $10 million left. The remaining teams have around $10-30 million in cap space left.

The NFL teams must now plan their rosters according to their salary cap left, with the 2026 season approaching soon.
