The Pittsburgh Steelers will pick at No. 21 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are approaching one of their most important drafts in a very long time. In the first offseason with new head coach Mike McCarthy and the first one without Mike Tomlin in nearly 20 years, Steelers fans are eager to see what the front office and coaching staff may do when the draft starts on April 23rd.

While speaking on Kaboly and Mack about the team’s potential paths forward in the first round of the NFL Draft, insider Mark Kaboly revealed his opinion about what position the team might draft. In fact, he believes it will be a wide receiver.

Here is what Kaboly had to say on Monday about his views on the team drafting a wide receiver in the first round:

“I still think it’s going to be wide receiver, to be honest with you. I think it has to be a wide receiver. Like I said, there’s nobody in the free-agent market that you would really want.”

Kaboly could be speaking the truth on this one. The Steelers have already partially addressed the wide receiver position this offseason. They traded for star Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. earlier this offseason to pair with Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf. However, Metcalf was the only wide receiver to surpass 500 yards receiving last season. While Pittman is a great addition, McCarthy’s offense could use some more firepower.

At pick No. 21 overall, Pittsburgh will have plenty of opportunities to address the wide receiver position. The likes of Jordyn Tyson, Carnell Tate, Denzel Boston, and Omar Cooper Jr. could all be in play for the team. Time will tell if GM Omar Khan decides that is the best course of action to take.

The Steelers Shouldn’t Look at the Free-Agent Market

While the Steelers have over $27 million in cap space, perhaps the wide receiver position needs to be addressed in the draft. There aren’t many big names at the position that are available to be signed. If there are, they are showing signs of slowing down or carry an asterisk. Notable top receivers such as Tyreek Hill and Stefon Diggs are both without a team, but both have an injury history and are 32 years of age.

Just because future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be returning for a 22nd season doesn’t mean the Steelers have to go all the way in on signing a bunch of veterans to help him out. They need to do their best to go all-in on this season while also preparing for the future ahead. Drafting a young and talented wide receiver in the first round could give this offense a jolt that it has been searching for in years past. Remember, Antonio Brown (2018) is the last Steelers wide receiver to be selected to the Pro Bowl.
