KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will have a special role in one of America’s 250th Anniversary celebrations.
Reid will serve as a guest narrator for a program called “Music and the Spoken Word.” It will be performed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square in Utah. The event will be held on Sunday, July 5.
The church said Reid’s narration will reflect on the principles of unity, perseverance and faith that have shaped the American story.
Before coming to Kansas City, Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles and said he is very aware of the role the city played in US history.
“I spent more than a decade just down the road from Independence Hall [in Philadelphia], where our Founding Fathers put pen to paper on the Declaration of Independence,” said Reid in a news release posted on the Church’s website. “They were the ultimate team — facing adversity, staying the course and building something that has endured for 250 years. I’m honored to join The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square to celebrate the birth of our nation in a place that reflects the same spirit of unity and faith.”
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has its own history in America. It’s performed for nearly 180 years.
The Choir’s “Music and the Spoken Word,” first aired on July 15, 1929, shortly before the Great Depression. It has been broadcast every week since, according to the Church.
In recognition of the 250th anniversary, “Music and the Spoken Word” will be live twice on Sunday, July 5. The programs will go live at 10:30 a.m. CDT and again at 12 p.m. CDT and can be viewed the Choir’s YouTube channel.
