Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham: Buurman Banger sees Chelsea progress in the FA Cup

Chelsea secured a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals on Easter Monday with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Sam Kerr opened the scoring for the home side in the first half before Eveline Summanen opened the second half scoring with an equaliser for Spurs.

It looked like it was going to extra-time but with four minutes remaining, Chelsea substitute Veerle Buurman slotted the ball into the back of the net securing victory and knocking the Lilywhites out of the FA Cup.

Story of the Match

It was a quick start from both teams with Chelsea having launched out of the blocks and instantly going on the attack, however Tottenham dealt with it fast and launched an attack of their own.

With five minutes played Chelsea's Alyssa Thompson unleashed a good shot on target but Spurs goalkeeper Lize Kop dealt with it well to keep the game goalless.

Spurs' Matilda Vinberg looked dangerous on the counter-attack having made a great run forward.

Kop then found herself busy again, getting a solid hand to an edge of the box strike from Chelsea's Lauren James.

Chelsea dominated the first 30 minutes of the game in terms of possession, however, despite many shots on target, the visitors' defence held strong, frustrating the current holders of the FA Cup.

Hannah Hampton finally found herself in the action with a great save denying Signe Gaupset shot from reaching the goal.

With six minutes left to go of the first half, the stalemate was finally broken as Chelsea's superstar striker Sam Kerr gave the home side the lead with a bullet header.

Six minutes into the second half Tottenham got their equaliser, with a rocket free kick from Evelina Summanen sailing past Hannah Hampton and into the back of the net.

Taking it up a notch

Chelsea responded quickly with Sam Kerr capitalising off a sloppy back pass from Spurs, however the Spurs goalkeeper got a finger to it pushing it wide.

With the score back level, both teams stepped it up a gear with both teams fighting for momentum.

Veerle Buurman with four minutes remaining of regular time sent a rocket into the top corner, scoring the winner for Chelsea and sending the defending FA Cup champions into the semi-finals.
