General manager Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers will be making the 23rd overall pick at the 2025 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers have had a relatively quiet all-around offseason thus far. Brian Gutekunst has made a few additions, but nothing game-changing.

After seeing players like Romeo Doubs, Elgton Jenkins, Quay Walker, Malik Willis, Nate Hobbs, Rashan Gary, and Rasheed Walker leave town, there are many questions left to be answered. However, there is still plenty of time for the team to make moves.

At this point in time, there are a few clear needs that must be addressed. Among those needs are cornerback, defensive line, and pass rushing. The Packers also need to add a backup quarterback and could use another running back as well.

With that being said, a new potential trade target has come up if Green Bay wanted to get extremely aggressive.

Packers Named a Team Interested in Trading for Dexter Lawrence

New York Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has reportedly requested a trade. That news was reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

“ESPN sources: Giants All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade and he will not be participating in the team’s off-season workout program that opens Tuesday,” Schefter wrote on X.

“Lawrence and the Giants have been through two off seasons attempting to negotiate a contract reflecting his value to the Giants over the last three years, but there has not been any progress, per sources.”

That report was followed up by a report from Packer Report’s Easton Butler, who name-dropped some teams interested in trading Lawrence. The Packers were on that list.

“Several teams have called the Giants about Star DT Dexter Lawrence, with some including the Packers, Bears, Jaguars and Bills,” Butler wrote.

What Would Dexter Lawrence Bring to Green Bay?

Throughout his career, Lawrence has become one of the best defensive tackles in football.

During the 2025 NFL season with the Giants, Lawrence played in all 17 games. He racked up 31 tackles, 0.5 sacks, an interception, and four defended passes. Those numbers don’t show just how good he has been.

Last season in New York, the 28-year-old defensive tackle totaled 44 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, and a defended pass in 12 games.

Few defensive tackles can wreck an offensive game plan more than Lawrence. If Green Bay was to acquire him, the defense would take a huge leap forward.

Expect to continue hearing rumors about the Packers as the offseason moves forward. Lawrence may or may not end up being a trade target, but the fit would make sense. He’s exactly the kind of splash move that Green Bay fans have been hoping to see the team make.
