It remains to be seen who will be throwing the football for the [Pittsburgh Steelers](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers) next season.
But, can the same be said about who will be catching the football?
D.K. Metcalf named potential trade candidate for Steelers
----------------------------------------------------------
Steelers star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was recently [named a surprise trade candidate](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25414979-trade-meter-biggest-stars-2-weeks-ahead-2026-nfl-draft) by Moe Moton of Bleacher Report.
Moton cited the lack of guaranteed money remaining on Metcalf's contract combined with Pittsburgh's penchant for landing quality receivers through the draft as two reasons why a move could happen.
“Meanwhile, Metcalf doesn't have any guaranteed money left on his deal. As a two-time Pro Bowler, he's unlikely to play on a contract without financial security. That said, the 28-year-old is coming off his least productive pro campaign,” Moton wrote.
“The Steelers have a strong track record of drafting receivers, and they have three third-round picks this year. Don't be surprised if Pittsburgh trades Metcalf and drafts a replacement on Day 2.”
A suspension last season voided Metcalf's guaranteed contract money for this season, which in theory could make it easier for the Steelers to move him. But, they still traded a second-round pick for him just a year ago. They might not want to give up on that investment so quickly.
In 15 games for the Steelers last season, Metcalf tallied 59 receptions for 850 yards and six touchdowns. At 28 years old, he should still have plenty of productive play ahead of him, either in Pittsburgh or elsewhere.
