Man Utd loanee gets a standing ovation from fans for latest performance... 8 duels won, 8 recoveries

Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer has had a frustrating campaign in the Championship, but on Monday night, he reannounced himself.

Since Toby Collyer headed on loan to West Brom initially back in August, Manchester United will have been disappointed with his availability derailing any progress.

This loan ended in January, before Collyer moved to Hull City, a club he previously rejected, intending to see out the season in the North East.

But Collyer’s injury nightmare continued to the extent that on April 6th, he made his first start for the Tigers, and it was a performance that showed the player he can be.

Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer shines for Hull City

On Easter Monday, there was plenty of action in the Championship, and this included a late kick-off as Hull City took on league-leading Coventry, with Collyer starting in midfield.

Collyer outshone everyone else on the pitch apart from maybe the Coventry goalkeeper.

74 minutes played

30/38 passes completed

50 touches

3/3 successful dribbles

6 passes into the final third

5 defensive contributions

3 tackles

8 recoveries

7/9 ground duels won

1/2 aerial duels won

It was the kind of performance that Collyer is capable of when fit, doing all the dirty work, while being an excellent ball carrier in midfield despite his slight weakness in passing range and accuracy.

What makes this even more impressive from Collyer was that he managed to perform to such a high level despite playing just 42 minutes since November prior to this.

Injuries aside, Collyer has performed to a high level in the Championship, and if he was able to put this behind him, chances are United could see him become a £20m midfielder with relative ease.

United have been urged to sell Collyer this summer, being ruthless to axe the talented midfielder who has never managed to kick on from his debut over one year ago.

Hull press rave about Collyer’s performance

Hull managed to get a 0-0 draw against Coventry to solidify themselves in fifth place in the league table, right in with a chance of reaching the play-offs.

After the game, Hull Live rated the players’ performances, and among the highest scorers was Collyer.

The outlet gave Collyer an 8.5/10 match rating, while revealing that he got a standing ovation.

“A first start for the on-loan Manchester United midfielder, and he started well, winning the ball early, and looking neat and tidy on the ball. Probably City’s best player in an absorbing first period, and that continued in the second. Deserved his standing ovation when he departed.”
