Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract, with the option of a 12-month extension included. Maguire was set to be out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season.
The defender has signed a new deal on reduced terms, but the option of a year extension has been included, meaning Maguire could stay in Manchester until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
United were keen to retain Maguire's experience in the dressing room. The 33-year-old has been at the club for seven years, making 266 United appearances and winning two trophies during that time.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day," Maguire said after signing his new deal. “I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
Director of football Jason Wilcox added: “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.
“Harry, like everyone at the club, is completely determined to help Manchester United to achieve regular and sustained success.”
Since Michael Carrick's appointment in January, Maguire has started every game in the Premier League. Maguire was not considered a consistent starter at the beginning of the campaign, but he started against Liverpool at Anfield in October and scored the winning goal in a memorable 2-1 victory.
Thomas Tuchel recently handed an England recall to Maguire for the first time during his stint as Three Lions boss. The defender was a stalwart for England throughout Gareth Southgate's reign.
Maguire was sent off in United's 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on the day his England recall was announced, which means he will be suspended for United's match against Leeds on April 13.
That means Maguire will have to wait to reach 600 career club appearances. United signed Maguire for £80million from Leicester City in the summer of 2019. Just five months after signing from Leicester, Maguire was named United captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Maguire endured a challenging 2021/22, the season in which Solskjaer was sacked, and made just eight league starts in the following campaign under Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag stripped Maguire of the captaincy in 2023. West Ham were interested in signing Maguire, but he stayed at United and has become a valuable player at Old Trafford once again.
