Paul Scholes says there’s a‘great footballer’ at Man Utd who should be sold, it makes sense

Paul Scholes’ opinions on Man Utd haven’t been the best recently, and he’s now said a ‘great footballer’ at the club should be sold.

From picking unnecessary fights with Lisandro Martinez to putting Michael Carrick under undue pressure, Paul Scholes has lost a lot of goodwill with Man Utd fans.

However, even a broken clock can be right twice a day, so his reasoning to sell a ‘great footballer’ at United makes a lot of sense.

Here’s what he had to say about his latest stance, which will get people talking again.

Paul Scholes urges Man Utd to sell Mason Mount

Scholes has finally said something that will get most fans on his side, and that is his stance on Mason Mount at the end of the season.

Mount has played less than five minutes of football since Carrick came in, and after Ruben Amorim’s sacking, there’s no clear position for him in the team either.

He could be a fine rotational option, but neither his wages nor his availability lends itself to being a reliable player for that role.

As a result, Scholes has made it clear that he thinks Mount should be sold in the summer, despite being a ‘great footballer’ whenever he plays.

He said [on his podcast]: “Look, again, I’m not sure. I’d probably sell him, and I like him. He’s a great footballer, but he’s never going to play in front of Bruno Fernandes.

“I’m not sure what other position he can play, and he doesn’t play enough games.”

Selling Mount will be extremely difficult

It’s one thing to urge United to sell Mount, but it’s another thing entirely to actually make it happen.

What do you expect from Mason Mount between now and the end of the season? Where does he fit in?

Even United would probably agree that they need to move on from Mount, but at the same time, they know the stumbling blocks.

For one, United would be selling him from a position of weakness after another written-off season for him due to injuries.

Then, even if he can get back to peak fitness, there’s no team that would bet on him with his current salary, which almost certainly lends itself to a partial-wage-covered loan move.

A loan move doesn’t help United, especially with four competitions next season. If they are already paying him, they might as well use him on the odd occasion he is available.

As it stands, it looks like United will have to let his contract expire at the club, because selling him is easier said than done.
