Former Chelsea academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek has remained non-committal regarding his future, suggesting that crunch talks over his AC Milan contract will have to wait until the summer.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek‘s nearly 20-year association with Chelsea remains a big chapter of his career, beginning when he joined the youth ranks at just eight years old.
His physical presence and technicality made him a standout in the 2018/19 season under Maurizio Sarri, where he recorded a career-best 10 goals and helped secure the Europa League title.
However, his progress was stalled by a devastating Achilles injury suffered during a post-season friendly in 2019. Despite the setback, he racked up the displays, amassing 155 appearances for the club before Loftus-Cheek’s £15 million move to Italy in 2023.
He still secured two Premier League titles and holds a deep connection with the supporters who watched him rise through the ranks at Cobham.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a potential Premier League return
Speaking to Mediaset, Ruben Loftus-Cheek was asked about whether he would be open to returning to the Premier League this summer.
And while he didn’t rule it out, he does state discussions will take place at the end of the season.
“I have a contract until the end of 2027. I think we’ll discuss it with the club in the summer. I love Milan and this team, but right now I’m focused on the end of the season.”
Interestingly, it was claimed that Loftus-Cheek rejected a return to Chelsea back in the January transfer window, and it remains to be seen as to whether the Blues would welcome a return.

Should Ruben Loftus-Cheek return to Chelsea?
The prospect of re-signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a romantic one for many Chelsea supporters, but it presents a significant clash between sentiment and the club’s current trajectory.
At 30 years old, Loftus-Cheek would offer the senior head and Premier League experience that Marc Cucurella and others have recently called for.
However, Chelsea’s recruitment has shifted heavily toward high-upside youth, and with Valentin Barco on his way for a midfield position. Chelsea are open to signing players with more experience and another midfielder, even after the Barco capture, so never say never.
