It isn’t quite silly season yet but the rumour mill is already spinning ahead of the summer transfer window. Chelsea are expected to be active in the market as they are currently falling short of their ambitions and must retool around Liam Rosenior and his style of play. Current reports out of Germany are linking the Blues to a heated battle for a highly praised left-footed centre back who Real Madrid and others are linked with.

The 18-year-old has been a regular for Bremen this season, making 22 Bundesliga appearances in a tumultuous year for the club who are battling relegation. The current fee being quoted is roughly £43 Million depending on currency conversions, this could be lowered if the side are in fact relegated but should they stay up, they’ll be pitting massive suitors against one another for a better fee.
Karim Coulibaly Profile
The teenager is highly sought after due to his profile. He is a left-footer who can play on the left side of the back line and has shown a capability to play out from the back with composure. He has been praised for “elite line-breaking passing”, “physical dominance”, and the potential of a “world-class playmaker” in a scouting report.

With all the characteristics of a modern-day CB it comes as no surprise that he is linked to a host of major clubs, particularly the likes of Chelsea who have struggled this season to play out from the back adequately, particularly after bringing in the more risky Rosenior who likes to bait a heavy press. Coulibaly’s ability to play through the lines could flip the squad from the defensive phase to an attacking one with swiftness.
