Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has launched a blistering attack on the Spanish media amid ongoing speculation surrounding the future of Argentina international Julián Álvarez, who has been persistently linked with summer moves to Barcelona and CHELSEA
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Atletico’s La Liga fixture against Barcelona, Cerezo expressed frustration at the “relentless” transfer rumours involving the 26-year-old striker, insisting that speculation had crossed a line and become detached from reality. He was quoted: “You are crossing the line a little with Alvarez. He’s an Atletico Madrid player and has a long contract with the club.”
The president’s remarks come in the midst of intense media coverage suggesting that both La Liga giants and Premier League suitors are eyeing Álvarez as a marquee signing ahead of the summer transfer window.
Barcelona are widely reported to view him as a potential long-term replacement for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, who is nearing the later stages of his career.
Will Chelsea make an official Alvarez move?
Liam Rosenior knows that he has a quality squad, there is alot of talent in the side, but there is not enough top level winning mentality that would guide the club to that Premier League or Champions League title, we need someone like Alvarez.
He is brilliant all over that front line and although we love Joe Pedro and all that he has achieved this season, Alvarez is a different level and if there is a chance from the board to make a move in the summer, we are sure that CHELSEA will take it.
But with Barcelona and a number of other clubs interested, Getting Alvarez is a different story and we may struggle to convince him to come to the club because he wants too, and not just for the massive amount of cash it would take to bring him here.
