Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo reflect on the'great relationship'they share on the pitch

Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo have been working on building a formidable partnership since the beginning of the season, with both players enjoying themselves regardless of what position they are asked to fulfil on the pitch.

Although Manchester United had a topsy-turvy start to the 2025/26 campaign, it was evident from the very beginning that there was a strong connection between Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.

Amad hasn’t been as prolific as he was last season – in terms of goalscoring – but the Ivorian has shown his versatility and work ethic under not just Michael Carrick but Ruben Amorim.

On the other hand, Mbeumo is United’s joint-top scorer across all competitions with 10 goals.

Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo enjoy playing together

There are many examples of Amad and Mbeumo combining to lethal effect this season.

One example of that was when the pair combined just over a minute into the 2-1 win at Liverpool in October, with Amad feeding Mbeumo, who sent the ball past Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Amad played at wing-back and Mbeumo was also on the right, but that has changed in the past three months since Carrick became interim head coach.

Under Carrick, Amad has played further forward as a winger, with fewer defensive responsibilities.

Speaking to reporters in the Republic of Ireland this afternoon, Mbeumo was asked about playing with Amad and the different roles they’ve played throughout the season.

“We had a great relationship at the start of the season and I think it is still going,” Mbeumo said.

“Him on the right, me on the left or as a striker. I know his movements, how he likes to play, with the training and the games as well, we try to bring this partnership every time.”

Amad echoed that and added that the pair have a strong relationship off the pitch, too.

Amad said: “At the beginning of the season, I was playing as a wing-back, he was a right 10, we had a good relationship even outside of the pitch.

“Now we’re playing different positions, sometimes he plays as a striker and me as a winger. We know each other, we have freedom on the pitch and can switch positions. He’s happy to do his best for the club, same for me.”

Amad Diallo enjoying trip to Ireland

Amad and Mbeumo faced the media during United’s four-day training camp at Carton House, Co. Kildare.

United will be returning to Ireland to face Leeds in a pre-season friendly at Croke Park in August.

However, hundreds of fans travelled to Carton House to greet the players, with Amad among the players happy to stop for autographs and pictures.

When asked about the Irish welcome they’ve received from United fans in Ireland, Amad added: “It’s nice to play in front of them, so many fans here who sometimes come to Old Trafford. It’s very important to give them some time and enjoyment. We are really enjoying it and spending time with them.”
