Harry Maguire has extended his stay at Old Trafford.
The England centre-back has signed a one-year extension with Manchester United. Maguire, 33, is now signed through the 2027 season.
“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire said in a statement. “It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together. You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
A product of the Sheffield United academy, Maguire made his senior debut in 2011. After four seasons with his boyhood club, Maguire made the jump to the Premier League in 2014 with Hull City. Relegated in 2017, Maguire signed for Leicester City where he would spend two seasons before an £80 million move to United in 2019.
Maguire’s United career has been somewhat of a rollercoaster. A prolonged dip in form in his third season with the club saw him become a maligned figure among supporters and increasingly marginalized as a player, making just 16 Premier League appearances in 2022-2023. That summer, United and West Ham agreed to a £30 million transfer for the player, but Maguire backed out at the last minute in order to fight for his place with the Red Devils.
Stripped of the captaincy ahead of the 2023-2024 season, Maguire’s rejuvenated play saw him return to a key role in the team’s defence and emerge as a favourite among fans.
“Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United,” United technical director Jason Wilcon said in a statement. “He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad. Harry, like everyone at the club, is completely determined to help Manchester United to achieve regular and sustained success.”
In seven seasons with United, Maguire has made 185 Premier League appearances and won a League Cup and FA Cup with the team.
Internationally, Maguire has been capped 66 times by England, appearing in two World Cups and Euro 2020. Maguire missed out on Euro 2024 through injury.
