Bills trade pitch sees Buffalo give up on Josh Allen's struggling $10 million WR teammate

The Buffalo Bills' 2025-26 receiving core was less than spectacular.

The mediocre offensive unit certainly didn’t do Josh Allen any favors, but heroics combined with a strong run game helped the franchise reach the AFC Divisional round.

In ESPN’s Bill Barnwell’s opinion, it’s time for the Bills to move on from Allen’s struggling 22-year-old WR teammate after an underwhelming sophomore season in Buffalo.

"Bills get: 2-35, 3-66, (Tennessee) Titans get: 1-26, 5-168, and wide receiver Keon Coleman,” Barnwell wrote Monday in an article exploring hypothetical trades.

“After trading that second-round pick to the Bears for DJ Moore, Bills general manager Brandon Beane should be looking to move down from No. 26 and add a Day 2 pick. He can sweeten the pot by including Coleman.”

“Though Joe Brady has said that he values Coleman and thinks that the third-year wide receiver can continue to grow in a Bills uniform, ownership publicly trashing Coleman in that memorable postseason news conference tells you how the most important person in the building sees the 2024 second-round pick.”

“This trade values Coleman as a fourth-rounder, which seems about right for a player who hasn't consistently impressed so far as a pro.”

Coleman’s second NFL campaign is one he probably wants to forget. The Florida State product exploded for 112 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in the Bills’ season opener, but failed to build on that high-level performance.

From failing to create adequate separation/win his one-on-one battles to possessing an uninspiring burst, Koleman’s limitations resulted in a 38-reception, 404-yard, and four-touchdown season with the Bills.

As Barnwell noted, though, Coleman has received support from the organization despite his glaring shortcomings. That said, there’s no guarantee that Buffalo’s stance on the former second-rounder will remain the same in the foreseeable future.

Simply put, Coleman is on thin ice and shouldn't feel comfortable with his trajectory heading into Year 3.
