Liverpool are reportedly keeping close tabs on Barcelona defender Jules Kounde as the club continues assessing options for a potential defensive reshuffle this summer.
The Reds are understood to be monitoring the France international closely, with competition expected from several Premier League rivals also tracking his situation.
Liverpool’s interest signals a desire to add proven quality at the back as recruitment plans begin to accelerate ahead of the transfer window.
Ibrahima Konate is reportedly close to extending his Liverpool contract, but there is still need for another centre-back signing even if they will already welcome Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet to the club in the summer.

Mark Brus reports: “My understanding is that Chelsea are now ready to try an “aggressive” push for the France international’s signature, though other clubs could also get involved.
“Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked with Kounde and I can confirm they’re monitoring his situation, though Chelsea are understood to be showing the strongest interest at this stage.”
Barcelona are believed to value the defender highly, with reports suggesting any deal could require a fee in the region of €80m (£70m). Interest from clubs across Europe further underlines his status as a sought-after defensive target.
Liverpool seemingly tracking French talent across the board
One factor that could strengthen Liverpool’s interest is Kounde’s relationship with Konate and Hugo Ekitike having played together for France.
That existing relationship could prove beneficial if Liverpool move forward with a formal approach, helping ease adaptation both on and off the pitch.

Ekitike himself joined Liverpool in 2025 and has continued to develop into an important attacking presence, making him a potential bridge figure should new French talent arrive at Anfield.
Kounde remains one of Barcelona’s most reliable defensive performers and is capable of operating both at right-back and centre-back. His versatility makes him an appealing option for Liverpool’s evolving defensive setup.
At 27 years old, Kounde represents a player entering his peak years, bringing both experience and top-level pedigree after competing regularly at the highest level with Barcelona and the French national team.
