The Detroit Lions were unable to live up to the hype last season, missing out on the playoffs just one year removed from being arguably the best teams in the NFL.

Back in the 2024 season, the Lions looked like they were on their way to a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they fell apart in their first playoff game against the Washington Commanders and were eliminated. Last season saw the team take a big step back.

Despite the falloff, Dan Campbell and company have the pieces in place to contend in the NFC. While the NFC North division has improved immensely, Detroit will have a chance to get back on track and reopen the Super Bowl window after just one year.

With that being said, the 2026 NFL Draft is right around the corner. The Lions have been predicted to make a very interesting move behind Jared Goff at the quarterback position.

Detroit Lions Predicted to Make Intriguing Quarterback Move

CBS Sports analyst Josh Edwards recently revealed a seven-round mock draft. He predicted that Miami Hurricanes standout quarterback Carson Beck would land with Detroit at No. 118 overall in the fourth round.

Beck, who is fresh off of leading Miami to the National Championship Game, is one of the more intriguing quarterbacks in the 2026 draft class.

The Ringer’s Todd McShay provided his breakdown of Beck as an NFL prospect. He thinks that Beck has more potential to be a high-end backup rather than a starter.

“Beck will be drafted as an early-career backup with future NFL starting potential. Betting on the latter is rich for my blood,” McShay wrote. “I see some shades of Tanner McKee (Eagles) and Aiden O’Connell (Raiders) in Beck’s game. I could see him having a similar career as a high-end backup who can win games when called on.”

Having a high-end backup would likely be of interest to the Lions.

What Does Carson Beck Bring to the Gridiron?

During the 2025 college football season, Beck put together a strong year. After playing his first four seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, he played his final year at Miami.

Beck led the Hurricanes to a championship appearance, but came up just short against Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers. He finished the year completing 72.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Throughout his entire college career, Beck racked up 11,725 passing yards, 88 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions, while completing 69.5 percent of his passes. At one point in time, he was viewed as a likely first-round pick.

It will be interesting to see where Beck ends up landing in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Lions are worth keeping an eye on in the middle rounds.
