Deion Sanders is still considered one of the best players in the history of the NFL. He played for 14 seasons for teams like the Dallas Cowboys, the Atlanta Falcons, the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Redskins, and the Baltimore Ravens as a cornerback. He also played in the MLB.
Retirement did not stop him from continuing in football, as he became a coach in college football. He recently offered some advice on his social media page.
Sanders had a brilliant start to his coaching career, having coached at Jackson State and currently for the Colorado Buffaloes. Despite his early success with these teams, he hit a rough patch last season. The Buffaloes had a disappointing 3-9 record in 2025, and were underwhelming in their performance. It has created much pressure for the coach, who has already responded with new measures.

He has implemented new rules for the program’s players with a structured fine system for violations including tardiness, misbehavior, and social media misconduct. He has also overhauled the coaching staff and had dozens of transfers ahead of the 2026 college football season. Nickamed ‘Coach Prime’, he is also known for his inspiring way of coaching and messages. Sanders recently [tweeted](https://x.com/DeionSanders/status/2041496248663081106?s=20) a motivational message on his X account on April 7, 2026.
It read, “I know it’s harder to do right than to do wrong! Wrong leads u to destruction, disconnection & pain. Right is right but right ain’t easy. Right take a decision that has to be made daily and consistently. I’d rather be right than wrong any day anytime & anyplace. #CoachPrime”.
The message was vague, with no reasons mentioned. However, it could be directed towards his players to step up their game for the next season. He has also emphasized strict training methods for his players.
Sanders has established a new practice policy ahead of their April 12, 2026 spring game. If any player misses the practice session on Tuesday, they will not be allowed to play the spring game. He is reported to have said, “Any player who does not practice on Tuesday will not play in the spring game.”
This rule is a clear indication that the players must focus on their discipline and be fully committed, after a disastrous 2025 season. It is also a preview of the strict locker room the coach wants for the upcoming season. The spring game is important as it will allow the players to show their abilities and an indication of what is to come in the upcoming season. Depending on their performances, they can either become full starters or drop down to the benches.
Deion Sanders will be focusing on the spring game, and hope that his players can step up.
