What Man Utd target did to infuriate Old Trafford in 2018 is enough to end all transfer interest

Harry Wilson has been linked with Manchester United ahead of becoming a free agent in the summer but his celebration against the Red Devils is unforgivable.

Ineos have had huge success shopping from within the Premier League, and Harry Wilson is set to become available after a very impressive season with Fulham.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur on X, United are monitoring Wilson as a potential target ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

While there is no denying that Wilson would be a good signing to add attacking depth to United’s squad, his previous ties to Liverpool complicate the deal.

Harry Wilson performed Liverpool celebration vs Man Utd

At the age of 15, Wilson became a full-time member of the Liverpool academy, where he rose through the ranks before signing professional terms with the Merseyside club in 2014.

In 2018, Wilson was on loan at Derby County and he scored a free-kick in the Carabao Cup clash at Old Trafford.

Wilson mirrored a celebration once performed by Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, holding up a hand to symbolise their five Champions League trophies at the time.

Wilson also thanked fans for nicknaming him the “scouse Torres”, after growing up as a boyhood Liverpool fan.

Despite not even wearing a Liverpool shirt at the time, Wilson used his Derby free-kick as a chance to wind up the United fanbase and show his Liverpool ties. If that isn’t enough to end the transfer rumours, nothing is.

Man United must avoid Harry Wilson deal

Even if Wilson as a free agent represents great value as a signing, it is not the kind of deal that Ineos should be exploring.

At 29 years old, Wilson is hardly the profile of player that United should be looking at anyway.

United target Yan Diomande is also a Liverpool fan, and for the same reason, Ineos should be wary about pursuing a deal for the young winger.

Ineos have had success with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens because they were desperate to play for United and move to Old Trafford.

That certainly isn’t the case with Wilson.
