Everton are in the race to sign Christian Kofane from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
That is according to Eric Depolo – who represents the Cameroon international – telling Daily Arsenal: “Yes, Arsenal’s interest is genuine. The manager likes him very much. Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona and Bayern Munich (are also interested).”
Everton fans have already seen one Cameroonian striker on Merseyside after Samuel Eto’o spent the first half of the 2014/15 campaign at Goodison Park – and Kofane would go one step closer to living up to comparisons to the former Barcelona star if he makes a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
How we could do with one of these guys right now! 😫

Samuel Lobe says Everton target Christian Kofane “reminds” him of Samuel Eto’o
Everton fans never witnessed the best of Eto’o as he was in the twilight of his career while playing under Roberto Martinez, but in the 19-year-old Kofane, a precocious talent could soon arrive.
The Bayer Leverkusen No.35 has impressed since his €5m (£4.4m) move from Albacete to the Bundesliga back in July, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 40 appearances so far this season.
After also shining at the Africa Cup of Nations, analyst and former striker Samuel Lobe even compared the Everton target to Eto’o. He told Canal+: “He (Kofane) reminds me of Eto’o in his playing style. He is a talented young player. He will go far if he keeps up this momentum.”
Foot Africa also labelled Kofane as the new Eto’o.

The official Bundesliga website have made a bold comparison too when it comes to the teenager, likening the Douala-born talent to Liverpool No.22 Hugo Ekitike.
They wrote: “With speed, vision and a polished finishing ability, Kofane has every hope of becoming the latest talented young striker to bloom in the Bundesliga. He certainly has the potential to create some special highlight reels with his silky skills and all-round profile similar to that of Eintracht Frankfurt counterpart Hugo Ekitike.”
Will TFG have to move away from Moyes to achieve their recruitment model? 😬
Dan Friedkin.
Clearly, Everton are monitoring an exciting talent in Kofane, but with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona also in the mix, it will be tough for The Friedkin Group to lure the new Eto’o to Merseyside.
