Harry Maguire has expressed his delight after officially signing a new contract that keeps him at Manchester United until the summer of 2027, committing his long-term future to the club he joined in 2019.
The 33-year-old defender put pen to paper earlier today following months of positive dialogue between his representatives and Manchester United’s football leadership team. The new deal caps a remarkable turnaround for Maguire, whose form and influence have surged over the past season under the guidance of manager Michael Carrick.
In a statement released by the club, Maguire said he was “immensely proud” to extend his stay at Old Trafford, describing the club as “a special place” and emphasising his desire to help drive United back to the top of English and European football. He also thanked supporters for their backing during difficult periods in recent years, adding that their loyalty played an important role in his revival
He told the club website: “It is a massive honour to represent Manchester United. It is a responsibility that my family and I are proud of every day.”
“I am absolutely delighted to extend my time at this fantastic club to at least eight seasons and to continue playing for our amazing supporters to create even more fantastic moments together,” said the 66-time England international.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this promising squad. The determination throughout the club to compete for major trophies is clear for all to see, and I am fully confident that our best moments together are still ahead of us.”
Maguire, who has made more than 260 appearances for the club, has been a central figure in United’s defensive resurgence this campaign. His aerial dominance, organisation and composure on the ball have contributed to United climbing the Premier League table and reaching the latter stages of multiple competitions.
Why Maguire Fully Deserves His New Deal
Maguire’s new contract is not simply a symbolic gesture—it is a reward thoroughly earned through performance, leadership and resilience.
Over the past year, Maguire has shown exceptional consistency in a position that demands both physical and mental strength. While others within the squad struggled with form or fitness, he became the reliable constant in Manchester United’s back line. His statistical output—clearances, blocks, duel success and progressive passing—has returned to the elite levels he produced during his earliest years at the club.
Equally important is his mentality. Few players have endured the scrutiny Maguire has faced, yet his response has been defined by professionalism rather than complaint. Losing the captaincy and dropping out of the starting XI could have ended his United career, but instead he fought to win back his place through hard work and improved performances.
