Chelsea are ready to sell young winger Alejandro Garnacho just one year after buying him from Manchester United. The club signed the Argentine star for £40 million last summer, but things have not gone well. Now, reports say Chelsea believe they can get back around the same fee if they sell him this summer.
Garnacho’s Move to Chelsea
Garnacho joined the Blues from Manchester United in August 2025. Alex Garnacho was a very talented young player at Manchester’s Old Trafford, he had lots of pace and accomplished many things on a soccer field while getting lots of goals.
The fans were excited to see what Alex could accomplish with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea paid Manchester United an up-front fee of £40 million for Garnacho and have a 10% Sell-On Percentage (meaning if Chelsea sold Garnacho later on for a profit, Manchester United would get 10% of that sale as well).
At first, the move looked like a dream for Garnacho as he left United after some problems with the manager there. Chelsea gave him a long contract and big hopes, however, the 21-year-old has struggled to become a regular starter for Chelsea. He has not played as much as everyone expected as his form has dropped, and he has found it hard to fit into the team.
Life at Chelsea has been tough as Garnacho has faced strong competition for places on the left wing. According to the reports, there have been recruitment regrets from last summer’s window. The left-wing spot did not work out as planned and because of his poor performances, Garnacho was even left out of the Argentina national team recently. With the 2026 World Cup coming, he needs to play more to keep his international spot.

The Fee Chelsea Expect
According to transfer journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea are now open to offers for Garnacho. The club thinks many teams would be in interest and would pay close to the £40 million they spent last summer. Chelsea believe the market for left-wingers is better now than it was a year ago.
