NFL Melbourne ticket nightmare: Fans locked out of cheap seats

Australian NFL fans have been forced to pay exorbitant prices for tickets to attend the MCG for September's match between LA Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne.

For the general public sale on Ticketmaster, tickets were advertised as $140 for cheapest seats and $90 for standing room - but those options almost instantly sold out, with it unclear how many were actually available in those categories for the September 11 match.

This author started off at 21,753 in the queue at Wednesday 10am (AEST) when tickets went onsale and had only progressed to 11,720 at 10:15am.

When I finally got in to buy tickets at 10:25am, the cheapest seats remaining were $560 restricted view - a price this writer was not willing to pay.

A friend of this author started in the queue at 4000, and was only able to purchase tickets at $450 each when they got in to the system at 10:15am.

Fans on social media were shocked at the size of the queue and also the prices of tickets once they got in view available tickets.

NFL @Ticketmaster_AU experience. 30 minute wait, 26,000 people ahead of me in queue even though I joined immediately. Literally no seats available on the “map” once it’s my turn. No standing room either. Why don’t they just list the available tickets anymore? No NFL for me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh well. Got tickets to the @49ers game at the MCG. Top deck and yes the prices are ridiculous. But I'll be there #MCG #NFL #49ers

With nearly all tickets gone by 11:15am, the regular season match is expected to be a sellout with a crowd close to 100,000 people.
