David Beckham’s Inter Miami had lined up Harry Maguire as their latest high-profile signing before he signed a new deal with Manchester United. Maguire, 33, penned a new one-year deal with the Red Devils earlier this week.
His previous deal was due to expire this summer, but he is now committed to the club until 2027, with the option for a further year. And while he is set to remain at Old Trafford, the England defender had an intriguing prospect on the table.
According to The Sun, Maguire had interest from Beckham's Inter Miami but chose to turn down a lucrative deal with the MLS side. Italian outfit Napoli had also been touted as potential suitors.
Maguire’s decision to turn down a switch to Miami comes after he revealed he was sent a word of advice by Beckham following abuse he received in England’s 2023 clash with Scotland.
Speaking at the time, he said: "I actually spoke with David about three weeks ago, after the game. He got in touch with me so it was really nice of him and I really appreciated that."
He added: "It meant everything. I've spoken throughout my career about David Beckham being someone I looked up to and watched when I was a young boy.
"It shows how classy he is to reach out to me and to message me. It was something I really appreciate. It was touching really."

Explaining his decision to sign a new deal with United, Maguire said: “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.
“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
United signed Maguire in a £80m deal from Leicester City back in 2019 and he has gone on to make 266 appearances for the club and has scored 17 goals. He has played 20 times this season but is suspended for the club’s upcoming clash with Leeds following his sending off against Bournemouth before the international break.
