Chelsea Told They“Won’t Be Getting Their Money Back”On Enzo Fernandez For One Key Reason

Ex-Chelsea player Pat Nevin believes his former club will have to take a hit if they sell Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid this summer.

The Blues signed the Argentinian international from Benfica in January 2023 for £107m, but speaking to Betarades.gr, Nevin said that Fernandez’s form in recent weeks could lead to his value depreciating:

“At the moment, Chelsea won’t be getting their money back because he’s had a tough time, and he looks tired. If Chelsea are thinking of selling, they need to figure out the misstep and know if it’s worth keeping him on. 17 goals in 100+ league games, and he cost more than £100m. That’s ok for a ten, but it’s not great or 100m quids worth.”

“It’s more complicated than that because the team was struggling for a while, but would it be a disaster if he left and they got some money back to reinvest? Well, Chelsea are a trading team, so if they trade well out of it, then great. Personally, I would like him to stay, but would it upset me as much as Cole Palmer leaving? No”.

Fernandez has had his best season in a Chelsea shirt

While there is a good chance that the midfielder’s form will spiral following recent events that led head coach Liam Rosenior to ban him for two games, it shouldn’t be forgotten how well he has played this campaign.

Fernandez has scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists in 46 appearances. He is also in his prime at 25 years of age, so you could easily argue the Blues can ask for £100m or more.

Will Fernandez leave Chelsea this summer?

The fact that the Argentinian has signalled his interest in moving to Madrid does suggest that either he or his agent have been contacted by Real.

It is widely known that the La Liga side like to hear a player actively push for a move to the Bernabeu before they make a formal bid. From the sounds of things, though, Real could stretch out negotiations for months to lower the price tag. It could be a long summer.
