Veteran Lineman Lucas Patrick adds Depth to the New York Giants Offense

Monday, April 6, was busy for the New York Giants. League insiders reported that team captain Dexter Lawrence requested a trade. The 28-year-old has been with New York since he was drafted in 2019. After yesterday’s news, Lawrence could be on the move this offseason. He will not report to the team’s voluntary offseason program starting on Tuesday.

Along with Lawrence’s trade request, the Giants had positive news on Monday. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that New York signed veteran lineman Lucas Patrick to a one-year deal. He is versatile on the offensive line and will enter his 10th professional season in 2026.

Where did Lucas Patrick play before he signed with the Giants?

In 2017, Patrick went undrafted out of Duke. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers. The first five seasons of his career were spent with Green Bay. Patrick appeared in 73 games and made 34 starts for the Packers. Following the 2021 season, Patrick signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Chicago Bears. He started 20 of his 23 games with Chicago.

The veteran lineman was a free agent ahead of the 2024 season, and he signed a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. He appeared in 11 games for New Orleans and made 10 starts. For 2025, Patrick signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, playing in six of their 17 games and making one start. As of Monday, Patrick is now a member of the Giants.

Lucas Patrick is a depth piece for the New York Giants offense

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported Monday that Patrick has signed a one-year deal with the Giants. Over his nine-year NFL career, Patrick has been a versatile player. That includes 18 starts at left guard, 28 at center, and 19 at right guard. He’s exactly the type of veteran depth piece the New York Giants offense needs.

Four of the five starting spots on the offensive line are solidified for the 2026 season. That includes Andrew Thomas at left tackle, Jon Runyan at left guard, John Michael-Schmitz at center, and Jermaine Eluemenor at right tackle. New York will have an open competition at right guard this offseason. Patrick will at least have an opportunity to compete for that spot along with a handful of players. Jake Kubas, Evan Neal, Aaron Stinnie, and Joshua Ezeudu will be in the running as well.
