Man United have reportedly been snubbed as they battle with Man City for the same player.

If both leave, the Red Devils will need to bring in reinforcements, and they have been linked to several top-class midfielders in the Premier League. The likes of Adam Wharton at Crystal Palace and Carlos Baleba at Brighton are both named.

Man City ‘win the race’ for Anderson

The 22-year-old has made 31 Premier League appearances for Forest this season, scoring two goals and providing an assist. He is the ideal holding midfield player in the Premier League.

However, according to the Mirror, Man City are the frontrunners to sign him; Not only that, but the Cityzens believe they have already won the race for Anderson, as they have initiated contact with his camp. Anderson is expected to leave Nottingham Forest in the summer regardless of whether the Reds suffer relegation back to the Championship.

Man United will likely target Tonali instead

Anderson had been one of Man United’s top targets, but if the reports are true about Man City potentially winning the race for him, then the Red Devils will need to consider other options.

As things stand, reports claim that Man United’s first choice is Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, as the Italian international wants Champions League football next season, something that the Magpies likely won’t be able to offer.

It is understood that Tonali could command a hefty £100m transfer fee, which is a lot. But, seeing as Anderson is expected to cost at least £80m, it seems to be the way the market is going with these top Premier League midfielders.
