Arsenal interested in two young centre-backs

Kai Havertz netted a late winner as Arsenal beat Sporting CP 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

The Gunners had lost their last two matches, losing the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City before suffering a shock loss against Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup on Saturday.

In the Premier League, the north London outfit remain top of the table and boast a nine-point lead over City heading into the run-in.

Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side defeat Bournemouth on Saturday, but in the meantime it has emerged that the London giants are monitoring two young central defenders.

According to CaughtOffside, Como’s Jacobo Ramon has joined Real Madrid’s Victor Valdepenas on Arsenal’s list of potential transfer targets.

The report claims that the Gunners are long-term admirers of Valdepenas, 19, who made his senior debut for Real last December.

The teenager is regarded by Arsenal as a player with the type of profile that would allow him to act as a long-term replacement for Gabriel.

Ramon, meanwhile, joined Como from Real Madrid last summer and has impressed during his debut season in Italy.

The defender has made 30 appearances across all competitions so far this term, but Real included a buy-back clause in the deal as well as a 50% sell-on clause.

Chelsea are also said to be interested in Ramon, 21, whose price tag will likely be significant this summer as Como will have to consider Real’s 50% sell-on clause when deciding an asking price.

Ramon is contracted to Como until the end of the 2029/30 season, but it appears that the Italian side – who have taken Serie A by storm this term – could face a battle to keep hold of the player beyond this summer.
