Slow start raises questions on Alejandro Garnacho at Chelsea
Alejandro Garnacho left Manchester United for Chelsea in a £40 million move. That time, he was a top young winger ready to explode on a bigger stage. Instead, the reality has been far more worse and far less convincing.
Across 20 Premier League appearances this season, the player has managed just one goal and four assists. These numbers show a difficult adjustment period rather than a breakout campaign. As per EPL data, his average minutes per goal involvement remains among the lowest for attacking players in his squad. Given that, it reflects both limited impact and inconsistent selection.
That said, the raw talent of the forward has not faded away. His performances in domestic cup competitions have been great at times. That is especially when he scored braces against Cardiff and Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. He showed the intent and edge that made him such an exciting prospect in the first place.
Still, **the Blues**’ competition has made life tough for him. With multiple wide options competing for minutes, Garnacho has often been rotated or used in different roles. With that, his growth has slowed at the club. Now, patience inside the club is quietly being tested.

River Plate keen as Chelsea consider loan move
As per reports, River Plate and their manager Eduardo Coudet are showing interest in the Argentine star. In addition, direct contact has already been made. Coudet offered a clear project designed to bring Garnacho back to South American football.
Chelsea are not shutting the door on this idea. In fact, internally, they are thinking that a loan move could benefit both sides. The club sees value in giving the winger regular minutes in a competitive but less intense environment. That allows him to sharpen his decision-making and regain rhythm.
From a strategic point of view, this fits the west London club’s recent pattern. The club has increasingly used loan spells to accelerate player growth rather than letting players spend their time on the bench. A year in Argentina could offer Garnacho exactly what he currently lacks.

Quenda’s arrival hints change in Chelsea’s long term plans
Liam Rosenior’s side are already planning ahead with the arrival of Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP. The 18-year-old has agreed to a deal worth around £40 million. He is seen as a perfect fit for the club’s youth-driven model.
Quenda’s numbers back up the hype as well. He has 5 goal involvements in 13 Liga Portugal appearances and 4 more contributions in the UCL this season, as per stats by UEFA. Those numbers show his ability to perform at a higher competitive level. He can play at multiple positions, which gives Chelsea more options in their squad. Coaches value players who can adapt quickly, and Quenda seems to tick that box with ease.
This change in direction suggests something deeper at the west London club. Chelsea are not just reacting to Garnacho’s form at the moment. They are planning to make changes in their attacking line for the new season. If Quenda settles quickly, the route for Garnacho becomes even smaller. That brings the idea that a loan move is not just possible but increasingly likely.
That said, Rosenior’s side are not giving up on Garnacho for now. But, they are no longer fully convinced he fits their plans at the club.
